My pregnancy Journey (Part 2) - First trimester

After finding out about the pregnancy, we scheduled an appointment with my Obgyn. I told her about the positive pregnancy tests and she said it is too early to tell anything and scheduled a scan after 8 weeks. In the meanwhile, I started to experience mild nausea after every meal, but never vomited which was good enough for me.

The nausea and uneasiness would start right after having food and sometimes it eased a little after drinking green tea or lime juice. But it never worsened beyond that. Finally, I completed 8 weeks and went for the scan. I was pretty nervous and had some silly thoughts like there is no baby in me and it was all just my fantasy and I imagined the symptoms. But I coudn't have been more wrong. Hearing the baby's heart beat for the firstime on the monitor and seeing a grey blob in the gestational sac reassured me immensely and everything became too real. I WAS REALLY PREGNANT!

Apart from the mild nausea, the only symptom i had was sleepiness. After having lunch I had to take a nap in the afternoon. I was not a great napper before, but this urge to sleep took me by surprise. I also had these unusual pains in my pelvic area sometimes, but that was just my uterus stretching to accommodate by baby I guess.

I was lucky to have work from home and I utilized it to the fullest during my pregnancy. This was the period that I fell in love with my husband all over again. He was handling his fair share of housework before, but now he took up almost everything. Along with helping me in the kitchen he started handling other housework as well like laundry, cleaning, etc.

The only craving i had in this period was for spicy food. I satiated it occasionally with some vada pav and hari mirchi!

This pretty much sums up my first trimester. I am lucky to have not suffered through severe nausea and everything was almost normal.

Hello World!

I have been thinking of creating simple blog to record my experiences and memories of my pregnancy and becoming a mom to a beautiful baby girl. By the time I got a chance to create this, I have completed my pregnancy journey and have delivered my baby girl on May 15th 2020. So far the experience of becoming a new mom has been surreal and challenging at the same time. I also realize that this phase would pass me by quickly and they would just remain as beautiful memories, captured on this platform. This would be something I would like to revisit through out my life.

My Pregnancy Journey (Part 3) - Second trimester

Second trimester was simply amazing. I was cheerful all the time and nausea was completely gone. We also went on a short trip just as a couple. I became confident about my pregnancy and all negative thoughts went away just like that. Also, I got promoted at my work and was over the moon. But second trimester had it's own challenges like I used to get this pain in my ribs, especially after a meal. It would subside only if I lie down. However, all the positives outweighed this discomfort. I also had an anomaly scan during this period and we got one more reassurance that everything was fine with the baby. I also attended a physiotherapy class and learnt some basic excercises to relieve back pain and to have an easy labor. Overall I was healthy and was involved in all the nomal activities at home and at work.

My Pregnancy Journey (Part 4) - Third Trimester

I applied for maternity leave 15 days before my due date. I became busy at work and was delegating my assignments to my team memebers along with training and other support activities, so that my transition would be smooth. Health wise, I was still doing good, except for back pain and feeling tired pretty quickly. I pretty much started working from home. At the last leg of my pregnancy, corona virus lock down had started. I started having video connect with my doctor and went to the hospital once for a growth scan. By that time baby was weighing around 2.9 Kgs which was pretty good and she was in the correct position for labor and delivery. Till that time, I was prepared to try for a natural delivery. However after reading up a few horror stories about episiotomy and urine incontinence after delivery, I changed my mind and opted for a c section. Rather than having a cut down below in my perineum, I was willing to have it in my lower abdomen with proper anaesthesia. I would be writing a ...
